Skip counting

I am learning to skip count in 5s.  Next I will be try skip counting on from a number.

"I am learning to count in fives. I can go up to a hundred in fives. I can skip count  in two as well. I think fives is the easiest. "Thomas

Reading Eggs

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words by saying all the sounds and blending them together.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

I am learning to make the beginning and end sounds

I am learning to make the beginning and end sounds in unknown words.  I need to get my mouth ready to make the sound and this activity helps me remember.

I am learning to make patterns to 5

Thomas, you are able to recognise patterns to 5 using concrete materials.  We are now going to work on instantly recalling these patterns to 5.

"I can make the pattern to 5 and now we are learning to count to 100 on our whiteboards."said Thomas

Elm park 50th Birthday Party.

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Thomas said, "I liked all of the party. I can do the spinning top really easy."

I am learning to form the numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 12 correctly but I am learning to form 9 correctly.

Thomas said, " I am learning to do numbers and do my best work. I am trying to do it all the right way around."

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

I am learning to get my mouth ready for the first sound. I can make the sound now that I know my alphabet sounds.

Thomas said, "I am so good at reading and doing the pointing to the letters."

I am learning water safety

I am learning to enter and exit the pool safely.

I am learning to glide on my front with a flutter board.

I am learning to float on my back with and without a board.

I am learning to manage myself and get changed independently.

The whole class got a lot quicker at getting ready!
